Open House for #MormonsontheHill

0cf85e2b-b39e-4bab-9053-b944cde048a5Mormons on the Hill (aka members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Capitol Hill) will celebrate the completion of a new chapel on 522 7th St. SE with an open house this Sat., Dec. 12, from 10am to 4pm. All are invited to stop by for food, holiday crafts, carol sing-alongs (11:30 a.m. – noon and 2:30 – 3 p.m.), building tours (with a scavenger hunt for kids), and to meet and talk with those who will call this new building home. All are welcome! Admission is free.

The new meetinghouse – on 7th St. SE between E St. and G St. – was built where an old Safeway used to be. About 300 Capitol Hill residents belong to the local congregation and will attend services at this building each Sunday. The congregation is as diverse as those that make up the Capitol Hill neighborhood: D.C. natives, transplants, families, students, and Hill staffers. The new building has a chapel, gym, kitchen, and lots of classroom space. Mormons on the Hill hope to use this space to better serve the community.

The new meetinghouse will also serve as a drop-off location for holiday food drive with Capital Area Food Bank. Dried and canned goods can be dropped off at anytime during the open house.

It is sure to be a fun-filled day! For more information, please visit facebook.com/mormonsonthehill and follow #mormonsonthehill.
