Neighbor Assistance and Community Safety

Public-Safety-mtg-400A few weeks ago, a Hill East neighbor was brutally assaulted in her own home. Since that attack, the family has chosen to relocate; near neighbors have come together to help with moving costs and they need your help. Capitol Hill Neighbor Assistance Fund is collecting money, and you can donate via PayPal directly through their website. (If you’d like to donate in other ways, you can get more information at the Capitol Hill Neighbor Assistance Fund).

Our neighborhood is experiencing a surge in criminal activity that has rattled the community. In order to answer questions and listen to the community’s concerns Ward Six Councilmember Charles Allen, with special guest Chief Cathy Lanier, will be holding a meeting on public safety tomorrow night, Tuesday October 27, at Friendship Chamberlain PCS, 1345 Potomac Avenue SE. You are asked to RSVP through the form in Councilmember Allen’s website, which you can access by clicking here.

If you go, please note: The school is located close to the Harris Teeter on Pennsylvania Avenue, and across the street from Potomac Avenue Metro (Blue/Orange/Silver). While there is on-street parking, it may be limited, so you should consider other options to get there. There is a Capital Bikeshare station at Potomac and Pennsylvania Avenues SE. The area is also served by Metrobus routes 30S, 32, 34 and 36, as well as the Circulator.

WHEN: October 27, 2015 at 7pm – 8:30pm
WHERE: Friendship Chamberlain Public Charter School, 1345 Potomac Ave SE
WHY: Because knowing your civic leadership and your neighbors is crucial to keeping our city safe. Plus, I know you all have great questions and I want to hear the answers.
