The Capitol Hill neighborhood is mourning the loss of a devoted and loved member of the community, Steve Cymrot. Steve passed away yesterday afternoon. He had been hospitalized following a traffic accident the week before Thanksgiving.

Steve and his wife, Nicky are long time Hill-residents who have been heavily involved in community organizations such as the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, CHAMPS, the Hill Center, and more. In 2013, Volunteer Capitol Hill celebrated the extraordinary contributions made by Nicky and Steve Cymrot over a period of forty years to the Capitol Hill community and, in particular, their vision and leadership in the creation of the Hill Center.

Many in the community also know Steve from Riverby Books on East Capitol Street. Steve and his son, Paul, opened the neighborhood book store in 2001. The store’s first branch is still in operation in Fredericksburg, VA.

Our thoughts are with Steve’s family, as well as his friends and neighbors. His work in our neighborhood will always be remembered
