Jon Penndorf

Jon Penndorf has been a Capitol Hill resident since 2006 but has lived in (and close-in to) Washington DC since 1995, and wonders when he can start telling people he is “from here” instead of saying he moved here for college from New York. An architect specializing in green design, Jon works for a large architecture firm with an office in Northwest DC. Off-the-clock he enjoys spending time outside with his family, traveling, making and sampling gin and bourbon cocktails, finding new restaurants to try, and of course writing. He contributes to local and national architecture association newsletters on a regular basis in addition to writing for THIH. Jon lives with his wife, daughter, son, and cat in their SE Hill rowhouse.

Capitol Hill 4th of July Parade – Feel the Patriotism

For many folks the 4th of July (Independence Day) means hot dogs, fireworks, and lemonade (or beer) with family and friends.  For Capitol Hill residents it also means the annual tradition of perhaps the shortest parade (in distance) anywhere on the East Coast; but don’t let the distance fool you.  The annual Capitol Hill 4th […]

First Bite: Beuchert's Saloon

The farm-to-table dining movement lands smack in the middle of Capitol Hill with the opening of Beuchert’s Saloon on Pennsylvania Avenue SE.  Yes, this long, narrow eatery occupies what was an art and frame shop, but that space years ago was a true speakeasy, serving homemade alcohol to those who made their way through a […]

The Hill's Best Eats

Last week The Washington Post created a veritable desert island list of foods that “every Washingtonian must try.”  While we aren’t a city known for a plethora of native foods, the 40 Eats feature in the Weekend section outlined a wide variety of dishes that shape our metropolitan area.  Showcasing the melting pot that the […]
