Jon Penndorf

Jon Penndorf has been a Capitol Hill resident since 2006 but has lived in (and close-in to) Washington DC since 1995, and wonders when he can start telling people he is “from here” instead of saying he moved here for college from New York. An architect specializing in green design, Jon works for a large architecture firm with an office in Northwest DC. Off-the-clock he enjoys spending time outside with his family, traveling, making and sampling gin and bourbon cocktails, finding new restaurants to try, and of course writing. He contributes to local and national architecture association newsletters on a regular basis in addition to writing for THIH. Jon lives with his wife, daughter, son, and cat in their SE Hill rowhouse.

Hill Doers Profile: Saving Screen on the Green

When HBO decided to not renew the Screen on the Green program in 2009, many District residents were disappointed this summer tradition would not return.  Capitol Hill resident of six years Jesse Rauch was one of those disappointed movie-goers, and decided to start a Facebook group to save Screen on the Green.  Little did he […]

greenHILLhome: A Stroll Around the Hill

Washington DC was recently rated one of the ten most walkable cities in the country.   It’s pretty easy to understand why—a compact city in area, fairly even, flat terrain, short city blocks and lots of shade from tree cover.  Capitol Hill scored thirteenth out of 34 neighborhoods in the District on the Walkscore scale of […]

Rita’s on H Street: Cold Treats and a Taste Test Await

Hoping to cool down a bit this weekend, my family and I made the short trip up to H Street NE for a visit to the new Rita’s for some frozen treats.  I was a Rita’s newbie as well as a big fan of dessert, so I was curious.  Rita’s opened its H Street location […]
