Jon Penndorf

Jon Penndorf has been a Capitol Hill resident since 2006 but has lived in (and close-in to) Washington DC since 1995, and wonders when he can start telling people he is “from here” instead of saying he moved here for college from New York. An architect specializing in green design, Jon works for a large architecture firm with an office in Northwest DC. Off-the-clock he enjoys spending time outside with his family, traveling, making and sampling gin and bourbon cocktails, finding new restaurants to try, and of course writing. He contributes to local and national architecture association newsletters on a regular basis in addition to writing for THIH. Jon lives with his wife, daughter, son, and cat in their SE Hill rowhouse.

MLK Jr. Day Off, and Day On

Many of us will enjoy a three day weekend as we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 17.  To honor Dr. King’s sacrifice and his legacy of justice and empowerment, many local nonprofits and community groups are organizing service events for those with a day off to instead have a “day on,” […]

greenHILLhome: Funding for Solar in DC Gets Cloudy

Several months ago I wrote about the basics of solar energy on the Hill, the options for funding and the benefits of the Capitol Hill Energy Co-op.  In 2010, more than 40 Co-op members completed installations on their Hill homes and another 20 signed contracts for installations in 2011.  Fifteen other co-ops were formed in […]

New! Improved! Taxation with Less Representation!

Well, the 112th Congress opened its session on Wednesday with a low blow to their surroundings, stripping the DC Delegate of voting on the floor in Committee of the Whole matters.  While this website concerns itself more with matters of the Capitol Hill neighborhood and more-or-less ignores the big-domed building in the middle, the actions […]
