Jon Penndorf

Jon Penndorf has been a Capitol Hill resident since 2006 but has lived in (and close-in to) Washington DC since 1995, and wonders when he can start telling people he is “from here” instead of saying he moved here for college from New York. An architect specializing in green design, Jon works for a large architecture firm with an office in Northwest DC. Off-the-clock he enjoys spending time outside with his family, traveling, making and sampling gin and bourbon cocktails, finding new restaurants to try, and of course writing. He contributes to local and national architecture association newsletters on a regular basis in addition to writing for THIH. Jon lives with his wife, daughter, son, and cat in their SE Hill rowhouse.

First Bite: District Doughnut

Lately our fair neighborhood (and greater city) has been a breeding ground for baked-good fads, trends, and experimentation.  Some fads have succeeded and others have paved the way for new ideas.  We’ve got pioneers and purveyors of cupcakes, pop tarts, macarons, and now gourmet doughnuts with the arrival of District Doughnut on 8th Street SE.  […]

Easter Egg Hunts on the Hill

This weekend there will undoubtedly be some children hyped up on Easter candy.  Peeps, rolled in M&Ms and set atop Cadbury Crème Eggs may be someone’s idea of Easter brunch.  How do we work off all that sugary energy?  Going to hunt for more sugar hidden in tiny little plastic orbs, of course. If you […]

Cast Your Vote! Be Heard! Pop Tarts!

We here at The Hill Is Home take our right to vote very seriously.  Some things like democracy make America a wonderful place to live.  Nothing is more wonderful, though, than the taste of a freshly baked pop-tart on Election Day, the filling slowly dripping down your hand and arm as you cast your vote […]
