Jon Penndorf

Jon Penndorf has been a Capitol Hill resident since 2006 but has lived in (and close-in to) Washington DC since 1995, and wonders when he can start telling people he is “from here” instead of saying he moved here for college from New York. An architect specializing in green design, Jon works for a large architecture firm with an office in Northwest DC. Off-the-clock he enjoys spending time outside with his family, traveling, making and sampling gin and bourbon cocktails, finding new restaurants to try, and of course writing. He contributes to local and national architecture association newsletters on a regular basis in addition to writing for THIH. Jon lives with his wife, daughter, son, and cat in their SE Hill rowhouse.

No one really likes taking down the Christmas decorations when the holiday passes.  It’s not quite as exciting as putting them up and getting ready for a visit from Santa or holiday meals with family and friends, unless you’re one of a select group that really enjoys sweeping up pine needles.  It’s a necessary evil of […]

In the Reariew – 2011 in Dining on the Hill

What an eventful year on Capitol Hill – and I’m not even talking about the warped and wishy-washy politics that went on in the big white domed building.  We here at The Hill Is Home attempted to bring you timely coverage of our neighborhood politics, cultural events, developing stories and (probably more than anything else) […]

Holiday Lights on the Hill

For many folks the Christmas season isn’t the same without the twinkling of hundred (or thousands) of tiny lights adorning windows, eaves, bushes and banisters.  While the Hill may not have the sprawling front yards on which to place the cavalry of toy soldiers or the life size replica of Santa and all his reindeer, […]
