Jon Penndorf

Jon Penndorf has been a Capitol Hill resident since 2006 but has lived in (and close-in to) Washington DC since 1995, and wonders when he can start telling people he is “from here” instead of saying he moved here for college from New York. An architect specializing in green design, Jon works for a large architecture firm with an office in Northwest DC. Off-the-clock he enjoys spending time outside with his family, traveling, making and sampling gin and bourbon cocktails, finding new restaurants to try, and of course writing. He contributes to local and national architecture association newsletters on a regular basis in addition to writing for THIH. Jon lives with his wife, daughter, son, and cat in their SE Hill rowhouse.

But Capitol Hill seems to take on a very small-town […]

First Bite: Pacifico Cantina

While it may not keep pace with H Street NE, Barracks Row has its fair share of eateries opening lately.  Last weekend saw the grand opening of Pacifico Cantina.  Next door to Belga Cafe, the new Tex-Mex restaurant and bar may be already best known for its massive roof deck; but there is also a […]

Truck Touch This Saturday

I remember as a tyke wanting to ride on a street sweeper.  I didn’t really want to clean the streets, I just wanted to command the odd-looking, loud vehicle with giant brushes that also shoots water sort of like an international spy’s car.  At least, that’s how it appeared to me when I was eight […]

2012 Screen on the Green Schedule Published

We’ve got outdoor movies galore in DC, and some projected right onto the edges of our Hill neighborhood, but the granddaddy of summer outdoor cinema has to be Screen on the Green.  For years this summer tradition occupied the grassy expanses of the National Mall and brought folks together under the stars on Monday nights […]
