We periodically share updates from your ANC commissioners, edited for brevity and clarity. Although these are most pertinent to particular single member districts (SMDs), we feel the information shared can be of interest to the whole Capitol Hill community. Are you an ANC commissioner who shares regular updates? Add thehillishome@gmail.com to your distribution list, please! –María Helena Carey

April 28th (10am to 2pm) is DEA’s Drug Take Back Day, a nationwide event. You can learn more and search for a drop off location here. The closest one for those on Capitol Hill might be the MPD First District building, 101 M Street SW. These periodic events help to divert medicines from ending up in, say, the sewer system … (when flushed down the toilet).
I feel that my monthly brief write-up based on data in my excel file is becoming a bit repetitive. It is lately of the form, numbers go up here and down there and stay about the same over there. Occasionally, there is a spike in some type of crime and then, once MPD makes a few arrests, the spike disappears. Overall, despite the monthly gyrations, the number of crimes reported is on a decline– at least in our neighborhoods. (Excel sheet can be found here: Mar 2018.)
March did not differ from the form. The total crime reports for PSA 107 went down; 61 in February but 52 in March. (Fewer robberies, burglaries, and stolen autos in March.) In PSA 106 the totals went from 28 in February to 43 in March. (More violent crimes, thefts from auto, and stolen autos.) And, in PSA 108 totals were about the same: 28 in March vs 29 in February. For the Capitol Hill violent crimes, totals in March and February were the same: 9. But the mix differed. In the detail sheets, I highlighted the robberies/assaults that involved guns.
Change is coming perhaps. MPD is presenting online crime report data in a visual form now. So, if you go to www.crime.dc.gov website, there is an announcement about Crime Cards Data Mapping Application. Click on the box and you get citywide crime data in charts and graphs. Crime Cards will replace Crime Map in a few months, but I have been told that hidden somewhere are the District, PSA, and ANC breakouts I use monthly.

- Monday, April 23 CM Allen will be hosting a Budget Town Hall at Watkins from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This would be a great time to ask about funds for the pocket parks, but also ask about the status of redevelopment funds for the Penn/Potomac intersection.
- Monday, April 30 EventsDC will be holding their quarterly meeting about RFK redevelopment efforts at St. Coletta from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. RSVP to attend here: https://www.rfkcampus.
com/rsvp. At the last meeting, EventsDC talked about short term development goals including sports fields and possibly a market. - On Wednesday, May 2 at the ANC6B Transportation Committee, DDOT will be discussing results of their SE Boulevard redevelopment traffic analysis. As part of the Environmental Assessment DDOT is using advanced multimodal simulation and modeling software — as well as conversations with public, other stakeholders, and agencies — to assess each alternative’s positive and negative impacts.
