I am running for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner because I am so glad to live in this community and think that ANCs can play an important role in making neighborhoods enjoyable places to live, work and visit. I have lived in the District of Columbia with my husband and two children for more than a decade, including five years in 6C06. I have a master’s degree in public administration with a focus on urban policy and planning and currently serve on the ANC6C Transportation and Public Space Committee.
One of the reasons I am inspired to run for ANC is that I would like our neighborhood to continue to be a diverse community that offers convenient amenities for the people who live here. The neighborhood is growing at a rapid pace and attracting desired retail options, but along with that comes the need to address congestion on our streets, improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, and provide affordable housing options. As an ANC commissioner I would embrace the chance to study the issues, gather input from residents and businesses, communicate with neighboring ANCs, and work together with developers and District government for appropriate policies and practices.
As a homeowner, a parent raising kids here, a person who walks the dog, drives and uses transit in our neighborhood — as well as a person who simply cares about this place I call home — I have a vested interest in seeing the area thrive, and I would appreciate the opportunity to serve as an ANC commissioner and advocate for our community.
