Most of us are keenly aware of the massive changes H Street Northeast has undergone in the past 5-10 year period. We have seen the restaurant openings come and go; we have seen the construction that never ends, and we’ve lived the highs and lows of the DC streetcar drama. Some of the changes have been extremely welcome, such as the beautiful park at the starburst intersection of 15th and H streets and Maryland Ave.
But other changes have brought out a lot of emotion and have polarized the street: the increase in more expensive food options and businesses that open late is on the rise, and the businesses that stay open during the day such as barber shops and retail stores, some of them catering to tastes of a by-gone era, have dwindled. A new documentary, Fate of a Salesman, by DC-based documentary production company Eidolon Films examines the tension and worries of one such business — The Men’s Fashion Center.
The documentary will be premiering October 17th at 8 pm on WHUT in TVs across the area; but you have a chance to attend a real brick-and-mortar premiere this Thursday October 10th, 7 pm, at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. The best part of this FREE screening is that you can stay afterward for a Q&A session with the producers and the subjects of the film. Make sure you stop by their website, fateofasalesman.com, and watch the trailer, where you meet the Willie and all the great folks at the Men’s Fashion Center. Even though the event is FREE, make sure you RSVP at the Eventbrite site, so they know how many people to expect.
Hope to see you there!
