Labor Day weekend is here and so we say goodbye to yet another summer. Sigh.

If you are still reading this you must be stuck in town this weekend. So no beach lounging for us. What will we do instead?

Tonight head to Capitol Hill Arts Workshop for Fortinbras, a production by the Capital City Players. Fortinbras picks up where Shakespeare left off at the end of Hamlet. The Norwegian prince is not having an easy time in Elsinore, Horatio is giving him the back of the hand routine and all those pesky ghosts keep bugging him. The performances start at 8pm. Tickets are $20/$18 Student and can be purchased here.

Friday is the final Friday night concert at Yards Park.  (Actually not really. There are two more Fridays which have been added to the schedule due to rain dates.) Bring a picnic or grab a snack from food trucks  The Big Cheese or Pepes. The band Framewerk will play from 6:30 to 8:30.

Saturday check out The Lot at Union Kitchen which will host an open-air Fall concert series every Saturday from 5 pm- 10 pm through November 2nd.  The concert series is going for a block party vibe. Think beer garden meets open air bazaar meets concert in the park venue. The Lot @ Union Kitchen aims to provide local musicians with a living wage, excellent idea!  The Lot @ Union Kitchen also provides a platform for the members of Union Kitchen to sell their food while engaging the community in fun, affordable, and unique entertainment. and is featuring $5 beer and wine and food from the nearly 50 businesses who operate out of Union Kitchen. Concert admission is free and will feature a both local and out of town bands. Brett and Champagne Fever will launch the free 10 week outdoor concert series this Saturday.  The Lot is at  Third and L streets NE.

At the Atlas the 2013 DC Asian American and Pacific Islander Literary Arts & Performance Poetry Festival a.k.a. “LAPP Fest” will be closing this year’s four-day festival. National slam champion and spoken word pioneer Regie Cabico co-hosts the dynamic closing performance with Virginia Beach poet Marco Mercado. Two of these five—Janani Balasubramanian and Paul Tran—will headline this bold poetry showcase. A diverse lineup of Burmese, Filipino, Vietnamese, mixed race and South Asian American artists will join them in challenging previously held notions about what it means to be Asian and Pacific Islander American today. If you have never seen Reggie Cabico perform his hilarious stand up/storytelling you are in for a treat. Tickets are $10 and are available here.
