The To Do List

Happy Tax Day! Did you get a return? Congratulations – you have an extra hour to spend it at DC bars tonight, which are open an extra hour (until 3am) since Friday is a holiday in DC! And if you owed – go find a friend with a fat return check to treat you to drinks tonight!

Speaking of that holiday… Friday is Emancipation Day in DC. The DC government and schools are closed.  On Saturday, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony sponsored by the National Park Service and Reading is Fundamental at Lincoln Park.  You can see all Emancipation Day events here.

The Library of Congress is hosting a couple of free classical concerts this weekend. On Friday the 16th at 8pm, you can check out the Alexander and Afiara Quartets when they join forces to play music by Martinu and Shostakovich.  On Saturday, the Alexander Quartet will join musicologist Robert Greenberg to discuss and perform Beethoven’s String Quartet op. 130. Both events take place in the Coolidge Auditorium on the ground floor of the Thomas Jefferson Building.

Head to Studio H from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday for the opening reception of Rod Glover’s Ungrounded.

On Sunday, open mic returns to Phase 1!  The bar opens at 7pm and the show will start sometime after 8pm, but sign up before then to be part of the show.

You can also check out Apples in Stereo on Sunday at the Rock n’ Roll Hotel. Why would you want to, you ask? One reason:  Stephen Colbert homage.
