So, it’s the first weekend after almost a week back to school and work post-Snowmapocoloozalypse. Routines are slowly (very damn slowly) returning to normal. It’s been a rough week (whether you were trying to navigate downtown traffic or whooping it up for Mardi Gras) but with highs in the low 40s predicted all weekend, at least you’ve got melting snow to look forward to! (Just please don’t do anything mind-bendingly stupid to help it along.) If that doesn’t do it for you, here are some other ideas:
Get out and vote! Or, stay in. This voting only requires that you hop online and represent the Hill! Over at NBC Washington you can vote for Results for the Golden Local for DC’s Best Gym. (or Gold’s if that’s your preference) It’s also time for the City Paper’s Best of DC 2010 Readers’ Poll. Ballots are open until March 15, and I want to see some serious Hill representation this year, so get to it!
On Friday the 19th, head to SOVA to see Matthew Hemerlein and Jeff Franca. I hear there will be a marimba and Katie Schuler will be on hand doing live drawings and taking your requests! The fun starts at 10pm and is FREE!
Intersections opens this weekend at the Atlas! And, Saturday the 20th is Family Day! Check out their website for more information. The schedule is packed with all kinds of things to do, so whether it’s an opening night party (your $20 ticket gets you a free drink), a mobile-making workshop, a dance workshop with Joy of Motion or an arts workshop with the kids – this festival has something for everyone.
The Restoration Stage is presenting All That Glitters at the H Street Playhouse. I’m not going to lie – I have no idea what it’s about, but Restoration Stage’s website has a great soundtrack and pair of seriously hot boots promoting this show whose tagline is What Do You Do When God Calls You to the Microphone? What else do you need?
Most importantly this weekend, the snow has had a serious impact on our neighborhood businesses. It was almost like a little mini-recession. I encourage you to remember who was open for you during the Great Blizzard of 2010, and go say thank you and spend a little of the money you saved when you were cooped up at home!

I’m still not ready to move the car, so I may just take advantage of happenings at the Atlas this weekend.
