Another Summer weekend is upon us!  Here are some ideas for how to spend this second weekend of August.

Thursday August 6

Start off with a bon voyage party for the Hill’s beloved Trover Shop.  Join your neighbors from 5-7pm to say goodbye to Trover at their shop at 221 Pennsylvania Ave. SE.  Afterwards, head down to Tingey Plaza (the open space located behind the U.S. Department of Transporation building at New Jersey Avenue and Tingey Streets, SE.) for Capitol Riverfront’s FREE screening of Big where they’ll be providing all the 80s candy you can eat.

Friday August 7

Get your weekend jazz fix at Jazz in the Garden where JLQ performs for FREE from 5-8:30 p.m or hit Jazz Night in Southwest from 6-9pm where $5 gets you in to see the Saltman Knowles Quintet.

The Nats take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at 7:05.  Stick around after the game for Friday night fireworks!

Saturday August 8

The Anacostia Community Boathouse Association is hosting Youth River Sports Day from 10am-2pm down at the Anacostia Community Boathouse.  This FREE event has everything from boat tours of the Anacostia to lessons in paddling a Dragon Boat!

It’s the second Saturday of the month, so that means it’s Barracks Row Second Saturday!  Stop by 8th St. SE for late shopping, hors d’oeuvres and wine!

In keeping with the Second Saturday theme, the guys over at Capitol Hill Books celebrate the second Saturday with their own brand of fun and mayhem starting at 4pm.

SOVA hosts West Virginia Fiddle Champion Chance McCoy (and friends), followed by square dancing and a jam session.  Spin your partner starting at 8pm.

If you missed the game on Friday, you get another chance to check out the Nats v. the DBacks tonight at 7:05.  The first 15,000 fans will be treated to an Adam Dunn bobblehead!  It’s Save-a-Life-Saturday, so before the game (and your first beer), spare a vein and give blood.

Sunday August 9

Douse yourself in patchouli and head over to the Newseum for its Inside Media series.  At 3pm Woodstock organizer Michael Lang will be sharing his thoughts on how a concert came to define a generation.  While you’re there, check out “Woodstock at 40: The Rise of Music Journalism” which went on display this week.  Groovy.

Monday August 10

If reliving Woodstock wasn’t enough rebellion for you, Screen on the Green has Rebel Without a Cause this week.  This is the last week, so throw on your black leather motorcycle jacket and get down to the Mall.
