Amid the flurry of talk, innuendo, community groups’ priority lists and information-gathering centered on the four proposals for development of the old Hine Jr. High school, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development listed its own criteria for selecting a candidate.
“Perhaps the most important criteria — in no particular order — are the developer’s vision, team’s financial capacity, track record for completing past projects and community support,” stated Sean Madigan, a spokesperson for the city. “At the same time, we are particularly interested in getting the best deal for the city. What will they pay us for the site? What project will generate considerable tax revenue, jobs, housing while balancing community concerns about traffic, density, etc.,” he added.
Madigan did confirm that this project is on fast track by noting it is “likely” the city will have a decision this summer. Stay tuned here for more information and updates. Public comment can be submitted until July 10 by emailing written testimony to dcbiz@dc.gov.
