Monday Morning Circle Time

Good Morning! It was a lovely weekend and I hope you enjoyed it. The weather was great for strolling and browsing at the market. Perhaps you readied your yard for winter? Maybe you are one of the lucky folks who started their Thanksgiving break early to avoid the crowds and travel nightmares.

I spent 24 hours in New York and listened to an 11 year old list of all the reasons why DC was better. (He’s not a fan of skyscrapers.)  As a former New Yorker myself this is not a sentiment I am used to hearing.  The “___________ is sooo much better in New York” meme is always good for a fight or a laugh on local DC blogs but he’s not aware of those yet. He just knows the small town in a big city life we are lucky to live here on the Hill. And even though there are wonderful things NYC has that we just don’t have, I totally understood where he was coming from.

But what was I saying? What did you do this weekend? Did you see the First Lady at Sticky Rice Friday night?

Since I also did last week’s To Do list I’m curious if anyone took my suggestions? Did you check out the Hill Center’s Grand Opening or any of the other events I suggested?

Jon: We started Saturday with a leisurely and decadent breakfast in Georgetown, followed by some Christmas shopping and brisk walk along the canal.  Saturday evening we had friends over for a fun dinner and watched all our kids play to exhaustion.  Sunday was spent raking leaves for what seemed like forever, followed by dinner with another friend who I hadn’t seen in years.

Sharee:  We kicked off Saturday with an early lunch at Matchbox and hit up the bike stores on Barracks Row looking for some cold weather riding gear.  A quick stop at Dawn Price got me prepared for an afternoon baby shower in Arlington. (Where the mom-to-be picked up the box and said, “This must be from someone on Capitol Hill!”)  Sunday found us driving around the city taking “representative” neighborhood photos for a website my company is working on.  But time was short because the Cowboys played at 1pm (in my house, its ALWAYS called The Cowboys Game).  So we stopped at Boundary Stone Public House in Bloomingdale for lunch and the first half of the game.  If you’re looking to venture out and try a new spot, put this one at the top of your list!

Jen: Spent a quiet Friday at home with the family. Saturday the elder child and I took Megabus to New York City. It was my first time and I’m hooked. Let someone else drive through Delaware!  Sunday morning the child tried out for Kids’ Jeopardy and was surrounded by fellow smartie- pants kids for the first time in his life.  The other child’s All Star Hill soccer team came in second place in a NOVA tournament surprising the usually dominant suburban teams. Congrats to the Capitol Hill Green Gators!
