A late-arriving Hill Buzz? Don’t mind if I do.
Let’s start with this week’s assault on the dignity and self-governance of DC: Congress voted to pass a bill restricting the District’s ability to impose taxes, among other things (FOX-5 and Washington Informer). One of the bills most ardent lobbyists? Doordash, of course. The same folks who brought Hill East a contentious warehouse (Capitol Hill Corner) that was a mess for the 1300 block of E Street SE and mercifully closed a little over a year later (Hill Rag) pushed unsuccessfully to do away with a $0.20 fee on food delivery services. Enter Congress and now DC has been violated. (CityCast) This fee would have been earmarked for supporting food access programs. (NOTUS)
By the way, thank goodness for sensible champions like Rep. Maxwell Frost from Florida. Click here to hear what he had to say on this ridiculous and senseless bill. (Instagram)
Friends and neighbors: Delete DoorDash from your phone AND (this part is important) check which third-party delivery service is used for your food delivery, as some businesses outsource their deliveries through them. We may not have full representation but we can use our dollars as leverage.
Washingtonian has a Best Of post with several new and familiar favorites. Check it out here.
And of course, Washington City Paper has their Best Of winners. We love seeing lots of local business love, although seeing an account my Gen X eyes have never laid eyes on winning best local Instagram over freaking WASHINGTONIAN PROBLEMS makes me question just how accurate this list really is.

You may recall a 13-year old was killed on July 11, 2026, in the 1600 block of Rosedale Avenue in Northeast DC. There is now video footage showing his last minutes before dying and his family is asking for help. FOX-5
Feel like helping the family out with funeral and relocation bills? You can donate to a GoFundMe.
