Monday Morning Circle Time

Yum. The air. It’s been a delicious weekend as far as the weather is concerned. Sure there were some showers but if that is the price to pay for this sweet weather than that’s fine with me.

But the calendar has turned and we have reached August, summer’s home stretch. How are we spending these last juicy weekends?

Jon: Enjoyed the wonderful weather again out of town.  I am looking forward to staying in or around DC next weekend.

Tim: Wisely loaned out various gardening tools, relieving myself of the problem of wasting a perfectly good weekend working outside. Unfortunately, was foiled in my laziness by having a friend move, requiring actual help.

Sharee: We kicked off the weekend with breakfast at Ted’s Bulletin, which lately has been the start of all my best weekends.  (BTW, have you seen that they’ve added their very own TWINKIES to the menu?  Will the temptations never end?)  Then we packed up to start the weekend early on the Eastern Shore, where we were later  joined by friends, babies and dogs (all from Capitol Hill, of course).  I managed to squeeze in a nice bike ride, some tennis, two naps, and a fantastic meal from the grill.

Robert: Spent Friday afternoon/evening at home with friends who were equally loathe to leave their air-conditioned comfort. Saturday afternoon was spent at the Gessford Court party, the evening at Belga celebrating various celebration-worthy events. Sunday was spent with friends on the Hill, and otherwise delving into various online databases to find out the fate of Laura L. Dodge

Kyra: I enjoyed watching our Nats take two out of three on Friday and Saturday nights.

Maria: Enjoyed a mommy-and-me date at the Capital City Diner; finally got to see and be amazed by the schoolbus at Trusty’s; loved, yet was slightly puzzled by this cool weather; and at some point in time, got to take in the most beautiful view of the city from the top of Lincoln Towers on 12th, which was magical.

Nichole: Spent Friday grilling and having beers on the patio with the neighbors. Headed to Mt. Pleasant and then Petworth on Saturday and spent Sunday intermittently napping and watching movies, after giving Ramona a haircut and returning gardening tools to helpful THIH contributors. (Thanks, Tim!)

Claudia: Saturday morning I joined a few other local bloggers for a Q&A session with Vincent Gray, then joined some fellow food bloggers for brunch at Firefly.  After a post-brunch nap I met some friends in NW for drinks and a movie.  On Sunday morning I met some friends at Art and Soul for brunch, and then drove out to Potomac, Maryland for a baby shower, came home to catch up on a little bit of house work and then enjoyed a delicious dinner at Montmartre.  The weekends fly far too quickly.

Kate: We spent Saturday morning gawking jealously at the big windows, natural light and trees in the yard of a friend’s Arlington house, but then happily returned to the Hill where we could walk to Trusty’s, Frager’s and Capitol Hill Tandoor, grateful that we spend so little time in the car. In the afternoon we found two vintage postcards from the 30’s that were stuck behind a baseboard that was recently removed. Who knows what else is back there! The deck and bus at Trusty’s impressed an out-of-town visitor, the perfect casual spot to enjoy the cooler temps.

Jen: Friday evening began with a frantic search for our 6 month old, 5 pound puppy who had escaped from our yard by jumping up on a wall and squeezing into the yard of the women’s shelter behind our house. Luckily some wonderful neighbors around the corner caught her and we got  her back.  Saturday we had breakfast at Ted’s with some dear friends who left DC for San Diego last winter. Sunday we once again had to leave the pool because of rain. I’m afraid we might be cursed.

I’m taking off for a few weeks and the lovely and talented Kyra will be documenting the next few thrilling, exciting, fascinating weekends for you. Have a great August!
