THE NUMBERS FOR THE END OF 2018 …
First, a bit of bad news. In December, there were 9 robberies reported within SE Capitol Hill and 8 of them involved guns. This is highest number of monthly robberies with guns in 2018. The next highest months were November (5 of 9) and June (4 of 7). In the rest of 2018, there were 1 or 2 robberies with guns per month. Hopefully, November and December do not indicate a trend for us. For the first 8 days in 2019, there were no robberies of either kind reported on SE Capitol Hill (i.e., within ANC6B).
Overall, December crime report totals were up significantly in PSA 106 and PSA 107, up somewhat in ANC6B but down in PSA 108. Here’s a snapshot:
- ANC6B (115 in Dec vs 109 in Nov): same number of robberies but more guns; more burglaries and thefts; fewer thefts from autos and stolen autos
- PSA 106 (75 vs 48): the jump in totals caused mainly by a doubling of thefts and more thefts from autos; no ADWs; only 1 robbery but it involved a gun
- PSA 107 (70 vs 59): rise due to more thefts, burglaries & more robberies with guns; no ADWs and fewer thefts from auto
- PSA 108 (39 vs 47): decline in thefts and thefts from auto while minor changes in rest of categories

YEAR’S WORTH BY CRIME TYPE
My yearly overview “2018 by Crime Type” table shows there were 51 more crimes reported in PSA 106 compared with 2017 but 105 fewer reports in PSA 107. In PSA 106 the increase was due to a few more homicides, sex abuses, robberies with guns, thefts and thefts from auto. While in PSA 107 there were fewer of all types except ADWs and burglaries.
REMEMBER: NEW PSA BOUNDARIES NOW IN EFFECT
If you used to be in PSA 107, you may now reside within PSA 106 since its northern border has shifted north of G Street. Or, if you live north of East Capitol you now reside within PSA 108. Or, if once in PSA 108, you may now be in PSA 107 since its eastern border has moved east to the River. My SMD (6B04) is still split between PSAs 106 and 107.
It doesn’t appear that DC has updated its Geospatial database to reflect the PSA changes as the PSA Finder does not provide accurate info. I posted the 2019 map for MPD’s First District here.
