Ruff ruff: New Dog Park opens at NJ Ave and H Street SE

Navigating the multiplying large-scale construction sites on Capitol Hill is tricky for residents, and especially those with small children and pets. Well, some pets do fall in the small child category, no? All of the projects going on in Navy Yard area makes things especially challenging. In any case, there’s a new dog park to take your beloved canine to to get those ya-yas out.

CSX partnered with WC Smith, the Capitol Riverfront BID and Councilman Allen to officially open the “Bark and Go” Dog Park on H Street SE beside The Collective Apartments and new Whole Foods last Thursday. This previously underused area at the corner of New Jersey Ave and H Street SE was transformed into a 3,000 square foot fenced-in dog park for the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. While the dogs are having their social hour and work-out, their owners can rest their weary bones (bones!) on one of the park benches and enjoy Anthony Howe’s kinetic sculpture “Shidahiku.”

CSX’s Virginia Avenue Tunnel project team is planning additional green space, bike paths, sidewalks, and other street amenities that will eventually link this dog park with another new one in the Virginia Avenue Park along 11th Street SE.
