Volunteering & Giving:

World Series, Here They Come — With Your help

We could all use a lesson in good sportsmanship. Leave it to the youngest among us to set a good example: The members of the Capitol Hill Little League (CHLL) are doing just that by assisting in another team’s fundraising efforts.

The Ward 7-based Mamie Johnson Little League won the DC 12U Championship this week (over our home-neighborhood Capitol Hill Little League team) to become the first all-African American Little League team in the District to win the city championship.  There’s no doubt they’ll bring the heat when they play in the regional tournament in Bristol, CT, starting in early August. Beyond that, the 12 boys from Mamie Johnson have the Little League World Series in their scope.

As one might imagine, there will be lots of bills to pay before and after they bring their can of whoop to Bristol and MJLL is conducting a fundraiser to help defray the costs.  CHLL and MJLL have partnered in the past on joint fundraisers, and CHLL hopes neighbors will chip in to raise funds for this trip. Consider the price of your Nats hat, dugout tickets or even a beer or two, and donate here. If you have an association with CHLL, please also list with your name a message of “from your neighbors in CHLL” (this is at MJLL’s request).

To quote  of WaPo reporter Barry Svrluga “Forget, then, any frustration with the Nationals’ losing record at the moment. Baseball — baseball at its best — is alive in the District. Alive and growing.” Do your part to help to help these little peanuts.
