Weather like what we’ve seen recently gives us a great reason to curl up with a cup of tea and a engrossing book.  If you need a good one, make plans to explore the collections at the library in Southwest or the Rosedale Recreation Center: our beloved Southeast branch library will be closed through February 19. The library, opened in 1922, was recently shuttered by a water main break. The book drop is also closed.

The exciting news is that renovations are wrapping up the Northeast Library, built in 1932. Big boxes of books being delivered were recently sighted and the doors reopen with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 3. There will be an open house and special events on February 8.
While each building has its foibles and quirks, and they all tend to be snug as bugs in rugs, they’re among the oldest in the DC Public Library system. Read more about these grand old dames here.
