Police are investigating a car chase and shooting that took place this afternoon on the Senate side of the U.S. Capitol, near the intersections of Constitution Avenue and First Street NW. The Capitol building was placed on lockdown temporarily, and witnesses tweeted photos from the scene.
Residents should avoid streets surrounding the U.S. Capitol as an investigation is currently ongoing. DC police say many streets remain closed including portions of Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenue.
