Happy August everyone! As usual the summer is flying by but don’t despair there is still plenty of summer left so get out there and enjoy yourself!

Tonight get your Gilbert and Sullivan on at CHAW. Capitol Hill Arts Workshop presents the beloved operetta The Pirates of Penzance. You can never tire of “I am the very model of a modern major general” right? Pirates tells a story of a boy, a girl, her goofy dad, some pirates and as a plot twist which depends upon the existence of Leap Year. No matter, the show is a joy and this one promises to be in the same tradition of CHAW taking a ‘slightly twisted” approach to G and S.  Evening performances are at 7pm and matinees are at 3pm. Pirates runs for two weekends and more information can be found online.

Friday and Saturday Liner Notes returns to the Atlas for another season. Actress, choreographer and all around fly-girl Paige Hernandez and her company B-FLy Entertainment orchestrate this hip hop trip down memory lane all via the touchstone of the now-all-but-lost-art of the liner note.  The series has been gaining fans and packed houses at the Atlas. A bit of spoken word, vocals and live music, the show is a party and a total all-ages crowd pleaser. Get your tickets now because they will go. Showtimes are 8pm.

Saturday meet a new friend!  The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop hosts the Rural Dog Rescue group on Saturday, August 3 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at 545 7th Street, SE. Rural Dog Rescue is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save the lives of dogs in high-kill shelters in rural areas with euthanasia rates of 80% or higher.  !  For more information on Rural Dog Rescue, please visit http://ruraldogrescue.com/.

We at The Hill is Home take our history very seriously. We “employ” two published historians/tour guides here. You can catch Tim Krepp doing his history schtick at Congressional Cemetary Saturday afternoon at 1pm. This tour covers the War of 1812 so ask make sure you ask him about Dolly Madison and the painting of George Washington

Monday night Taffety Punk Theatre once again performs their Bootleg Shakespeare which means the entire Shakespeare play is rehearsed and performed in a single day.  This year the script is Love’s Labour’s Lost, Shakespeare’s early comedy about the often tangled relations between the sexes.  The performance is free abd begins at 7pm.  Tickets available at noon on the day of the show, at the Folger Theatre Box Office.
Limit two per person. No reservations. No calls.
