Capitol Hill residents can complain about the lack of gourmet grocery stores in the neighborhood, but if you’re in the market for a good ukulele lesson, then you’re in luck.

On Saturday, a new music and practice studio, appropriately called Music on the Hill, will open at 1453 Pennsylvania Ave SE, just above the recently renovated World Wine and Spirits shop.

It’s a welcome addition to the Hill East neighborhood, which has sometimes begged if not pleaded for new businesses to open.

The shop is primarily an instruction space for a wide range of instruments, including drums, piano, guitar, saxophone, violin and voice coaching. There are 10 instructors who specialize in more than a dozen instruments. And, the shop sells smaller music supplies, like sheet music, guitar strings and reed sticks.

Lindy Campbell is a Capitol Hill resident and decided to open Music on the Hill with the help of her husband and sister.

“We are frantically unpacking and getting the shelves stocked,” she said. “I’m hoping that this provides local music and instruction to a part of the city otherwise missing it.”

Music on the Hill offers special classes for children too. The shop plans to host “mommy and me” classes and a special toddler ukulele class.

There are plenty of other courses available for registration, and if you sign-up by Saturday, you will receive a special rates for their grand opening. So get moving maestro!
