Erik Bruner-Yang, the self-taught chef at the uber-hip Toki Underground (and the soon to open and undoubtedly even hipper, indoor street market/eatery/coffee shop Maketto), is a nominee for Food and Wine Magazine’s People’s Best New Chef.  He is one of two DC chefs vying for the title of the People’s Choice of the Mid-Atlantic region. The other DC chef is Cedric Maupiller of Mintwood Place.   All the other competition is from Philly. So okay fine the Obama’s have dined at Mintwookd and not Toki yet but in all fairness I doubt you could fit his security detail in there.

So let’s show some Eastside DC pride and vote for Erik: http://www.foodandwine.com/peoples-best-new-chef/mid-atlantic

Of course this won’t make the waits at Toki any shorter…
