Meet the Candidates: Jared Critchfield, ANC 6B06

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

Thank you very much for trusting me to represent you as ANC6B06 Commissioner.  I ran for the ANC two years ago because I knew I could be an engaged voice that represents the views of the neighborhood on the Commission.  I have represented you well in issues before the Commission and in addressing concerns with city agencies and leaders.

In the past year and a half you’ve seen my work as a Commissioner—flyers from me on your doorstep if a zoning case affected your home, email about an upcoming case ANC6B was considering, information on the newhilleast.yahoogroups.com listserv about liquor licenses, notices of upcoming meetings, etc. on my website, and me at the Potomac Avenue Metro collecting signatures opposing redistricting boundaries that would significantly impact our neighborhood. All of the activities of the ANC that I’ve led or participated in contribute to a safer community for us and our neighbors.

In addition to serving as your Commissioner, I took on leadership roles within the ANC6B Commission.  As the Secretary of ANC6B, I carefully and accurately prepared meeting minutes, resolutions, and correspondence, which document the many meetings, negotiations, and issues the Commission engaged in last year.  This year I was elected by my Commissioner colleagues to serve as the ANC6B Chair. As Chair, I’ve managed the operation of the ANC and worked to ensure the “great weight” or influence afforded to the Commission has been granted by city agencies.  I’ve led the Commission as Chair during a very busy period with many changes, including through the hiring of a new Executive Director and the PUD (Planned Unit Development) process and negotiation for the Hine Junior High School site across from Eastern Market Metro Plaza.

I’m running for ANC6B06 Commissioner again because there is still much to accomplish. As your 2013-2015 Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, I will continue to focus my energy, and ask for your suggestions and support, on:

  1. Making the streets and sidewalks in our community safer;
  2. Insisting that Watkins Field is a safe and enjoyable experience for athletes and neighbors;
  3. Informing you about and engaging you in decisions that affect your home, such as the CSO (Combined Sewer Overflow) Construction and the Southeast Boulevard Environmental Studies;
  4. Compliance with voluntary agreements and liquor licenses and upcoming zoning regulation decisions as these issues dramatically impact our quality of life in ANC6B06; and
  5. Issues that affect all of ANC6B, such as the development of Reservation 13, the Hine School Redevelopment, increased vehicular traffic, and improving educational opportunities in the Commission.

Please re-elect me as ANC6B06 on November 6, 2012 so I can continue working with you and city leaders to make our neighborhood a safer place to walk, bike, drive, and enjoy.
