Redistricting Meetings Tonight; Hearing and Rally Wednesday

There will be a community meeting with Phil Mendelson tonight at 6:30 pm at St. Coletta’s School, located at 1901 Independence Avenue SE.  As Commissioner Brian Flahaven explained, “this is our last chance for a community discussion with redistricting subcommittee member Phil Mendelson before the hearing and Council vote. Make sure your voice is heard!

In addition, Councilmember Yvette Alexander will be holding a community meeting on redistricting tonight at 6:30 pm at the DOES Building located at 4058 Minnesota Avenue, NE.  While this is for her Ward 7 constituents, I thought a few of her potential future constituents in Hill East may be interested in this opportunity to speak with the woman who will be their new councilmember, if the proposed redistricting goes through as proposed.

And as a reminder, the Subcommittee on Redistricting will hold a public roundtable on Wednesday, June 1 at 6 pm in Room 500 at the John A. Wilson Building, Council Chamber, located at 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.  Those who wish to testify should contact Carol Sadler at (202) 724-8198 or csadler@dccouncil.us, and provide your name, organizational affiliation, and title of organization by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011.  Witnesses should bring 20 copies of their written testimony to the hearing.  Additional written statements are encouraged and will be made part of the official record. The official record will close ten days following the conclusion of the hearing.

There is also a pre-hearing rally planned for Wednesday at 5:30 pm in front of the Wilson Building.  Come out and have your voice heard!
