Update on Kingsman Field Dog Park

I’m sure by now you see that headline and think, “Yeah, yeah… they’ve been saying that for YEARS,” well, this time it’s really, really happening!

Kingsman Field dog park is nearing completion, with only a few small tasks left to finish up before you and your pup can start enjoying the park – just in time for spring. DC DPR is giving a timeline of the first week of March (that’s the end of next week, folks) for when you and Fido can get out and play! Obviously, if we get a freak snowstorm or have nothing but rain for the next week – both unlikely according to weather reports – things might be delayed just a smidge longer, but we’re now counting the days and hours (rather than weeks and months) before our puppy playground is fully operational!

Once it’s open, Hill Hounds – the nonprofit “friends of” group and official DPR partner of the Kingsman Field park – will work with the city to have licensing events to get your pup ready to use the park.

Nichole Remmert is the fundraising and outreach chair of the Hill Hounds Board of Directors.

Having lived around the corner from Kingman for over 10 years, I have proposed about a dozen different uses for the area that would actually be more beneficial to the neighborhood than a dog park… but… that’s life on The Hill these days.

  2. KGDC? says:

What is life on the hill these days? The realization that it takes effective people to get things done rather than just throw ideas around and be a general curmudgeon?

Dog parks are acutally quite beneficial to the community. There are currently more dogs in the US than children, and off-leash areas provide recreation to a large portion of the community (nearly 40% of all people have at least 1 dog). They provide a safe environment for people of all ages and abilities to take their pets and are often the most highly used parks in the community. Way to go, Kingsman Field!

  4. Sebastian says:

So KGDC what was your proposals? There still a huge chunk of under used field left. The dogs only got a small fenced in area.

I can’t wait until their is more foottraffic around Kingman field. My husband and I have a dog so we will directly benefit that way. But I also like the safety that the park will provide (speaking as single female who walks home after dark). more dogs= more people= increased safety.

Sorry to highjack this thread, but tonight we found a little lost Yorkie at the Corner of 3rd and C SE. No collar. At the moment the dog is with us at our home, but the DC Humane Society had been called and are coming to pick him up soon. If this is your dog, please reply here, or call the Humane Society later on.
