Wheeeee! It’s a short week! I just want to rush past Monday and Tuesday and get to Wednesday afternoon already. Well I guess that’s really no different from any other week.
Folks it’s time to gather the ingredients, start your prep work and make (or order) a pie or two. If you are just serving as a guest this year it’s time to polish up your witty anecdotes and winking charm to amuse your harried hosts. Dish washing skills a plus.
I saw lots of brussel sprouts and bags of potatoes in shopping carts over the weekend. What were you doing??
Maria: Had a great time supporting THIH at the Hilly Awards on Friday and is particularly indebted to the Argonaut bartenderess for making her Dark and Stormies with mostly Storm and very little Dark for her aching stomach. On Saturday, brunch was had at Sticky Rice– the Sticky Balls are an epiphany; and on Sunday, a brief flirtation across the bridge in Del Ray made her lust for more ample backyards.
Sharee: Hillys! Had a fantastic time Friday night mingling with the Hill glitterati and presenting the award for Retailer of the Year to Metro Mutts. Saturday, after a breakfast of Hillys-logo cookies by Patty Cakes (yes, they were amazing) I hit the gym and a birthday party for a one-year-old. Sunday my neighbor and I did mani/pedis at Eastern
Market nails before hopping on CaBi to do lunch at Liberty Tree.
Nichole: My weekend had two parts: the Hillys and recovering from the Hillys.
Jon: Friday night was fun at the Hilly Awards. Nice to know everyone cleans up so well. Saturday feels like a blur but I know part of it was spent running errands and the other part working. I did break for lunch from DC-3 (hello, fried pickles) and dinner at Sweetgreen. Sunday was spent prepping the yard for winter, raking leaves, a trip to Eastern Market and then one to Alexandria to visit with friends and family.
Liz: Had a fun and frivolous time at Hillys Friday night admiring adorable and brilliant fashions and the fun Hill folk within them, dinner at winning restaurant Acqua al 2 , Saturday night, and OMG! I taught Silvia how to ride a two-wheeler without training wheels–or, she taught herself. She took off on Julian’s big boy bike after a few supporting laps around Lincoln Park. I felt like a cliche, the girl rides bike for first time on beautiful fall day after many tumbles, cheering neighbors and one THIH blogger, and he boy shouting, Look Ma, ONE hand, without prior knowledge of cliches…Now she’s off on her princess bike.
Claudia: Had a great time dressing up for and helping out at the Hillys on Friday night. I took it pretty easy on Saturday, finally getting a taste of the Lobster Truck for lunch since they came by Eastern Market. On Sunday some friends and I started a journey to find the Boundary Stones, successfully finding the 10 along the southwest boundary (there are 40 in total). I am now in incredible pain from making that 12+ mile journey on my bike — it was the first time in two years I’ve ridden my bike beyond my neighborhood.
Tory: Spent my week in Chicago at Greenbuild, now traveling home with a flight full of screaming kids. Thank goodness for free inflight wi-fi, thanks to Google Chrome.
Jen: Had a great time at the Hillys with THIHers and fellow H Street representatives. Saturday enjoyed NOT attending a baseball or soccer game far from the Hill. Sunday attempted to procure some gluten free baking ingredients and was horrified at the cost and number of special flours that go into one pie crust.
