Monday Morning Circle Time

Forgive this old musical nerd but this weekend had me channeling a little Cowboy Curly from Oklahoma, but rather than just crooning about mornings I felt like bursting into song about each day to celebrate the extremely beautiful weather this weekend. I saw so many people out extracting every last bit of goodness and sweet, juicy sunshine. It’s as if last year we were reminded of how brutal winter can be and so we all scurried around storing up warm sun Vitamin D to last us all winter long.

What did you do?

Maria: Had a mellow weekend on the Hill, celebrating dear Scorpios big and small.

Sharee: Went to a pre-Hilly’s reception Friday night and met all the fantastic nominees while snacking on Seventh Hill pizza and pasta from Acqua al 2.  Afterward, it was a late night drive to the Eastern Shore to spend the weekend with friends, the bulk of which I spent enjoying the great weather while everyone else was out duck hunting.  This weekend, at least, the ducks won.  Came back Sunday to some projects around the house and finished off the night by satisfying a craving at Dangerously Delicious.  Mmmm, Chocolate Chess.

David: Spent the weekend in California wine country, visiting wineries in Napa and Sonoma, drinking some excellent wine, and eating some incredible food.

Jon: Had a very dramatic weekend.  On Saturday we drove to Stafford to see my nephew in his middle school  production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”  On Sunday I got a behind-the-scenes tour of the new Arena Stage from a friend who works there.

Nichole: Friday I went to the Hilly Awards nominees and sponsors party hosted by Michael Anthony Salon. Saturday I judged the Walter Street Chili Cookoff for the second year in a row. Sunday was spent with friends in Petworth!

Claudia: Friday I cooked dinner for a friend and had a movie night at my place. On Saturday I spent my afternoon judging the Walter Street Chili Cook Off, where I ate more delicious chili than I knew possible. I then managed to gather the energy to trek out to Virginia for a surprise birthday party. On Sunday I got breakfast at Cap City Diner and then spent my day being lazy and catching up on house chores and baking.

Robert: I spent the weekend recovering from a cold and am now in NJ picking up a side of beef.

Liz: Celebrated Silvia’s 4th Bday party at The Fridge amid wee princesses, pink anarchy prints, sparkles and children’s storyteller David London. Sunday- was a shut-in trying to finish an article, but was finally lured outside by the weather and caught the somewhat disarmingly hot Tweed Bicycle Riders gathered at Lincoln Park.

Jen: Friday night I represented Atlas at a reception for Hilly nominees at Michael Anthony Salon and enjoyed chatting with everyone. Saturday I rose before the sun to take my reluctant elder child to his soccer tournament in Ashburn, VA. Yes that’s Loudon County.  We had a lovely dinner with friends that evening who dared to brave our diet restrictions. Sunday a dear friend who is in from San Diego came over for brunch and then in the afternoon took the kids to the Family Concert at the Atlas and enjoyed watching the dancing and roaming toddlers while my near-tweeners sat and pretended to be over it all.
