Monday Morning Circle Time

Good morning! Was that too loud and cheery? It was a big, sugary, fun, marathony and rallified weekend in our little corner of the planet so we here at THIH understand if you need this Monday to recover.  We won’t tell. I can’t write a note to your boss or anything but I am looking forward to hearing about  how you spent this weekend.  Did you rise at dawn for a sweet spot on the Mall or a chance to run 26 miles? Play host to out of towners?  Did you relish the freedom to drink openly on 7th Street during Hilloween or get down with your inner zombie for Thriller?

Bonus points for funniest sign!

Let’s start with THIHers then feel free to join in.

Claudia: The weekend was a blur of too much sugary Halloween candy, huge crowds carrying signs (many not nearly as witty, funny, or smart as intended), and enjoying Halloween festivities around the Hill.

Jon: Saturday was spent cleaning up the house and running some errands and generally catching up on life after a big work deadline.  Sunday I insulated the floor in the house addition, then we took a walk down East Capitol Street to see the Halloween decorations.  After dinner we did the trick-or-treat thing, first going door-to-door and then handing out from our porch.

Maria: Saturday: Birthday party, errands, cleaning, puttering, monitoring a certain rally by whatever means possible, and holding my very own march to overcaffeinate my system (it produces a pleasant combination of sanity and fear).

Sunday: Brunch in an undisclosed off-Hill site, glimpses of the happy Marine Corps Marathon runners, and then suiting up as Batgirl and unleashing some Holy Candy-Eating Terror, Batman and Robin, upon the streets of Capitol Hill.

Robert: Friday: Large gathering at Tunnicliff’s to prepare for Hilloween. Saturday: Spent the afternoon around the fringes of the rally, reading signs and people-watching, successful ghost tour that evening. Sunday: Kid’s ghost tour followed by early trick-or-treating, then dinner with friends.

David: Celebrated a friend’s birthday party at Rock & Roll Hotel on Friday night, and ended the night with some beers at the Biergarten Haus. Visited Backstage early on Saturday morning for some last minute flair — as my band played the Georgetown Events’ 16th annual Boo And Brew, where we dressed up as Zombie Bellhops. Spent Sunday morning preparing for trick or treaters, and spent Sunday evening opening the door with several friends as we enjoyed pizza from Seventh Hill.

Sharee: Kicked the weekend off, like many, at Hilloween. Cap City Diner called to us on Saturday morning, so hubby and I were well fortified for the final weekend of talking to neighbors and handing out flyers before the ANC elections Tuesday. Sunday started what we hope will become a yearly tradition of inviting all the neighbors around our alley over for drinks and chili in the afternoon before everyone sets out for trick-or-treating.

Kyra: We spent the better part of our weekend in New Jersey, where we attended my cousin’s wedding. We got back to the city just in time to do some trick-or-treating with our daughter the witch. (I’m pretty sure this is the only day out of the year that I can call her a witch and not be called a bad parent.)

Nichole: Friday I ensconced myself on the patio at Tunni’s with Ramona doing her best canine impression of Slash from Guns ‘n Roses, followed by heading home to greet our Canadian guests who were in town to Restore Fear/Sanity. Saturday we hit the Mall to join in the fun. It was a good day despite Stewart et al never acknowledging our city’s lack of federal representation or even thanking DC for hosting his gig. After the rally we hit Hamilton’s, then the 18th, then Hawk n’ Dove, then the Tune, then Tunni’s, then an amazing late dinner at Acqua al 2, then back to Tunni’s. Sunday I trick or treated with a friend’s witchy toddler along East Capitol which was much fun and where I saw many good Hill friends.

Jen: Friday night I rid the Auto Zone parking lot of cars to make it safe and fun for Thriller on H. Saturday I tried to take two school-age curmudgeons to the the Rally but the crowds, the inability to see or hear anything and the occasional sign referencing a personal habit that Christine O’Donnell does not condone, all conspired to make the three of us miserable. The day was salvaged by dinner with the family at Ethiopic. Sunday I readied for Halloween night spent in the best neighborhood in town
