Really this is the time of year that makes me feel alive. Oh I guess spring can be nice but you can keep summer…leave me the August tomatoes and corn but the rest is just too much. It’s fall with its promise of cozy clothing, the promise of holidays, its every-dayness that I just love. This weekend saw fall off to a great start, the Sunday rain only enhanced the overall loveliness and I was almost sad when the sun came out.
It was a big weekend around the city as the changing season was celebrated with festivals galore. Did anyone from THIH venture up to Adams Morgan Day or Arts on Foot?
Jon: Had an amazing time at Cirque du Soleil’s “Ovo” on Saturday night at National Harbor. Sunday we braved the misty rain to visit our favorite vendors at Eastern Market for the first time in a few weeks.
Robert: Spent Saturday doing the first day of soccer, then on to the SE library’s book sale. Sunday
afternoon was spent watching the Nationals lose a nail biter.
Nichole: Drove back from a week at the beach on Saturday. Spent Sunday at home in bed – recovering from said vacation – with my dvr and delivery from Sanphan.
Claudia: Friday night was spent at the National Harbor for a bachelorette party, Saturday I had to spend most the day working but fit in a walk in the gorgeous weather and checked out the new Yards Park. That evening I went to a great roof party on top of the Cairo, which has one of the best views of the city, then made my way to U Street, then H Street, and finally home to rest up for a Sunday wedding in Woodbridge, VA.
Liz: Is still sick and wobbly on feet. Enlarged lymph nodes! Cough, cold. Sore throat! Minute Clinic at the CVS near the Argonaut. No diagnosis. Missed my own backyard barbecue! Rocky Road ice cream at home. Collected chestnuts in Lincoln Park for roasting on advice of Tai Chi master.
Maria: On Saturday, schlepped the kids to KidsFest at Lincoln Park and wondered at the DJs odd choice of tunes. Later, a friend and I accidentally wandered into College Football frenzy night at Trusty’s and lived to tell the tale. Sunday was spent watching football, doing laundry, and taking a leisurely stroll with the children –to and from Dunkin’ Donuts, that is.
Tory: This weekend I relaxed, went to hubby’s first football game at Sidwell Friends on Saturday. Nothing too exciting, but fall is here and *that* I’m excited about.
Sharee: Enjoyed a nice night at the ballpark on Friday with friends (and ended up explaining why they really would prefer living on the Hill over Columbia Heights). The arrival of college football means going to our neighbor’s every Saturday to watch Michigan football with a collection of devoted fans. Also on Saturday, as a candidate for ANC 6A05, I went over to a block party on E St, NE. Those people know how to throw a block party, complete with themed drinks (the “speed bump” was my favorite), crafts for the kids and notable guests like Tommy Wells and Phil Mendelson. Sunday was a day for organizing, with the requisite trip to Frager’s.
Jen: Friday evening I had fun at the Fruit Bat with the ladies. Saturday we hit the ground running with the first baseball and soccer games of the fall while also overseeing a group of volunteers from Greater DC Cares who came to help out at the Atlas for the National Day of Service. The nice folks at Dangerously Delicious gave them each a slice of pie. That evening we headed to the new Yards Park where the kids played croquet with some hispter dandies and I ate vegetarian barbecue. Sunday I tried to shop but just didn’t have it in me, so I came home and made raspberry bars instead. A perfect activity for a rainy fall Sunday.
