For the last nine years, our backyard gardening strategy has included one constant: find ways to block the view of the alley. The reason? The house just around the corner, whose backyard ends five feet from our fence, was an eyesore. For the first few years it was just a confusing mess — a run down commercial building with an old sign out front reading “Floyd’s Dental” though we never saw Floyd. For the last few years it sat vacant, weeds growing waist high, alley cats (and other city animals) taking up residence. When we saw evidence of work starting this past spring, my neighbors and I were overjoyed. And now that the house is ready for its first open this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 1-3PM), we are thrilled. The place looks AMAZING — 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, parking, tiered backyard, preserved brick walls, loads of windows. Now our view is great. If you end up with this place, I can tell you one thing for sure: you’ll have awesome neighbors.
