Are you a parent who misses the days of fine and civilized dining?  Can’t find a sitter when you need one for a night on the town?  It seems some of DC’s hippest eateries have felt your pains as twenty restaurants will participate in the DC Restaurant Week for Kids June 20-27, 2010.  For lunch and early dinner seating (5:00 to 6:30 pm) each child 11 years of age or under can select from a special kids’ menu and pay the equivalent of their age in dollars, with the purchase of an entree by an adult.

Three Capitol Hill restaurants are participating in this special week.  Art & Soul, on New Jersey Avenue NW, has created a special menu for the little ones.  First course options include grilled shrimp or mac-and-cheese.  Main course fare includes “un-fried” chicken and a ham-and-cheese biscuit, with cake or cookies and milk rounding out dessert options.  Art & Soul has a companion adult menu for $35 per person with a wider assortment of selections.  (Note Art & Soul is only participating at the dinner hour, not lunch).

Belga Cafe on 8th Street SE is also a participant in Restaurant Week for Kids.  For lunch and dinner (but not weekend brunch), children can select a starter, entree, and dessert from a special menu.  Bistro 525, also on New Jersey Avenue NW and in the Washington Court Hotel is participating for both lunch and dinner.  Menus for these establishments were not available at press time.

Restaurant Week for Kids sounds like a great opportunity to indulge in some delicious food and introduce kids to the world of finer dining.  At pay-their-age prices, it’s probably cheaper than hiring a sitter!
