Another gloomy Monday morning made me want to throw the covers over my head, stay home and maybe finally start watching Lost.
But the memories of the weekend and the promise of the three-day fun-fest on the horizon propelled me onward. Let’s find out what THIHers did between the raindrops this past weekend.
Sharee: We started the weekend with Nats v. Orioles (and lots of annoying people from Baltimore) on Friday. Saturday our block had our yearly yard sale, followed by the yearly caravan to Salvation Army to drop off the remnants, and lunch at Star and Shamrock, which shall be included as part of the tradition from here on out. Latkes, yum!
Tory: My husband and I spent the weekend doing more home improvement projects, including painting a wall with chalkboard paint. I can’t wait to see the final results once it’s dry. We also spent Saturday night BBQing with neighbors. Summer is here!
Tim: Spent Saturday keeping 8th graders from Ohio out of trouble and in FBI t-shirts. Sunday, watched the Nats fail to lose with the good folks of Maury Elementary and wrapped up the evening at the Hill is Home’s one year birthday party with my fellow writers, many of whom I hate.
Robert: I spent Saturday running my son’s 5th birthday party, then on to his first violin recital. Sunday at National’s stadium (I think there was a game happening, though I’m not 100% sure) and thereafter a quick stop by the THIH one year anniversary bash before heading home to make dinner for friends from out-of-town.
Kyra: On Saturday I was in western Pennsylvania, where we celebrated Grandma Bobbie’s 90th birthday. On Sunday we rushed back to the city just in time for a party with folks from The Hill is Home, which was then followed by over five hours of “Lost.”
Jon: We had a leisurely Saturday cleaning up the house and running errands followed by dinner with neighbors. Sunday morning was spent taking our daughter to see trains, first at Union Station (did you know there’s a toy store in Union Station now?) and a the Museum of American History, followed by lunch at Taylor Gourmet. The evening was spent at the THIH Anniversary barbecue for good food, drinks, and company.
Nichole: On Saturday I got to see Sara Moulton at Hill’s Kitchen (stay tuned for my post!) followed by 5 hours snacking and drinking way too much lemonada at Cava. After that, my friends decided that it was no longer acceptable that I’d never seen the Princess Bride and so we brought snacks and cocktails to my house for a viewing. (I fell asleep half way through, so I guess I’ve still never seen it. They live happily ever after though, right?)
Sunday I had a great time at the THIH birthday BBQ, followed by Dogfish Head 60 minute on Liz’s new front stoop. (I only left the Hill this weekend to procure cupcakes from Lavender Moon in Old Town!)
Claudia: My weekend was fairly low key, running errands to get the last few things needed for my big trip. Sadly, few of things I need for a four day hike in South America can be purchased on the Hill, so my errands took me to the insanity of a massive suburban shopping mall…I then ended the weekend celebrating THIH’s one year anniversary with all of our contributors!
Liz: I went to a birthday party in Marion Park for a wonderful 5 year-old and his family, sipped tasty cocktails with a friend at Belga (thank you Laura), attended the Maury-Nats day at the park, and celebrated under a perfect spring evening sky the first anniversary of THIH.
Maria: I was sad to miss the THIH anniversary party but she got to see how beautiful the city looks at night from the air.
David: After returning from vacation on Friday night, I didn’t leave The Hill all weekend. We went to The Bullpen at Nationals Stadium for a friend’s birthday on Saturday, a small dinner party on The Hill on Saturday night, and hosted THIH’s one-year anniversary party on Sunday evening.
Scott: Sadly, it was a slow weekend. We had to go out to West Elm at Tyson’s Corner to get a new rug since the store in Penn Quarter closed. We ended up empty handed, but it did remind me not to go to Tyson’s Corner on a weekend. Dinner at the Argonaut. Sunday was spent doing housework and then over to THIH barbecue, with an assist from Dangerously Delicious Pies.
Jen: Friday I watched Singin’ in the Rain at the Atlas and was pleased my two kids loved it. I bought a butter bell and a pretty new door mat at Hill’s Kitchen, both of which I believe have changed my life for the better. We hosted neighbors for dinner Saturday night after only 7 or so years of saying “we should get together!” Sunday we tried to do a late brunch at Ted’s only to find out they weren’t in fact serving breakfast all day…hmm. Wound up the weekend with my favorite bloggers as we toasted a great first year together chronicling life on the Hill.
