A Marvelous Wine Tasting

Uploaded to Flickr by SLR Jester

Beginning tonight, Marvelous Market on Capitol Hill will be hosting a wine tasting on the last Friday of every month until October. From 5-7 p.m., they’ll be opening some interesting and extremely affordable wines that should match the spring weather perfectly.

For the whites, they’re opening a 2009 Picpoul de Pinet (a white Rhone that’ll be extremely crisp with flavors of honeydew melon) and a 2009 Tres Ojos Blanco (a wine from Spain that’ll also be crisp, but should have more floral aromas). Both should be great on their own or with lighter fare like seafood.

They will open one bottle from Italy and one from Argentina to show off some of the best affordable reds in their collection. The Italian red, a Miracoli Montepulciano D’Abruzzo, should pair well with a variety of foods, as it’s not too heavy or high in alcohol. The Argentian red (El Ganador Malbec) will be big — so drink it with a burger or a steak.
