When I started the Hill Buzz series in July, I honestly thought I would have a hard time finding enough links to make it a weekly feature. About two or three months in, I realized that I had so many links I was forced to leave out a lot of stuff. It has been great to see how often our part of the city is mentioned by other blogs and I hope it keeps on coming. With the holiday, the blogosphere has been a bit quiet. So seeing as I have finally hit a week of a limited number of links to share, I’m doing a wrap up of my favorites from the last few months:
- Tommy Wells goes on camera with City Desk after 6+ hours at The Tune Inn: I’m not quite sure what to say about this video from City Desk interviewing Tommy Wells, but I had to share.
- This is still one of my favorite comment threads ever: According to Frozen Tropics, a human hand was found on Bladensburg Road. I would generally ignore a post like this since there are no further details, but then I started reading the comments and decided it was too funny to not pass on.
- And I’m sure there are even stranger sightings on H Street: Frozen Tropics shared a gem from Google Maps. Their street view caught a guy literally with his pants down on H Street…and no one walking by him seemed phased whatsoever.
- Oh, the little daily nuisances we must deal with: City Desk examined the issue of the stinky ginkgo trees in Trinidad.
- I really hope that H Street brings this back every year: Thriller on H Street, which drew a very impressive crowd, was recommended as weekend picks by DCist and We Love DC. I’d say roughly 100 people performed, while many more watched from the sidelines. Frozen Tropics and Famous DC both linked to videos of the rehearsal and actual performance, and you can see plenty of pictures in our Flickr group, as well as another video of the performance below.
- Has anything new happened with this space?: DCist reported that the movie theater in Union Station closed…and no one seemed to notice besides the National Community Church, who used the theater for their services for 13 years. About 2 years ago I went to a movie there, and was quickly reminded why I hadn’t been there in more than 5 years.
- I was glad someone finally called him out on this: We Love DC is concerned that Spike is turning his menu at Good Stuff into a giant love letter to the Obamas.
- I’m glad my neighbors aren’t like these guys: The Washington Examiner highlighted a 10-year dispute between two Capitol Hill neighbors over 8.4-inch gap between their properties. Come on folks, can’t we all just get along?
