Last night fellow The Hill is Home contributor Claudia and I made our way to H St. to check out Little Miss Whiskey’s at 1104 H St. NE. When we got there, there was a big ‘ol padlock on the door. We tried to find a phone number online, but since this place is owned by some of the guys responsible for the super low key (read: impossible to find until they put the big shoe couch out front) Jimmy Valentine’s over on Bladensburg Rd. NE, it wasn’t surprising that we had no luck.
Instead, we popped into XII for a drink and to check out their menu. We stayed downstairs (although, checking out their flickr feed, the upstairs bar area looks gorgeous!) and settled into our cocktails. Our super friendly bartender made an Ice Pik (Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka and Malibu Mango) for me and a Perfect Cranberry Margarita for Claudia. Their menu looked good, but we passed on food. There wasn’t a huge crowd (it was early on a Wednesday) but the folks that were there seemed like regulars, and as we were leaving, more people seemed to be coming in and headed upstairs. My drink was a little sweet for me, but that’s more my fault for not just ordering the vodka with soda like I normally would.

Admittedly, the cocktails were a little pricey (in the $10-$15 range), but XII is a nice spot and I can see why they seem to have attracted a loyal group of regulars. I’ll definitely be trying the food next time I stop in.
When we left, we checked Little Miss Whiskey’s again, and though the lights were definitely on – so was that padlock. I know that they had some initial troubles and didn’t open when they’d planned to (stuff to do with permits – imagine that in DC!) but I was sure that they were supposed to be open by now. I will keep you posted as I find out more!
Has anyone gotten a chance to check either place out? What’d you think?
I stopped by Little Miss Whiskey’s last Saturday night (the 18th). The door was open, so I went inside. They’re not open for business yet, but Mark, the owner (and one of the owners of Jimmy Valentine’s) let me check out the space. It really is something else (read my review on Yelp). He said they’re still waiting on permits, but will hopefully be open in the next couple of weeks.
That’s great, Chris – thanks for the update!
