Bring Your Mutt to Barracks Row Saturday

Metro Mutts SE - under wraps for one more day. Photo by Sharee Lawler

On Saturday, Metro Mutts opens its second Hill location, setting up shop on Barracks Row at 407 8th Street, SE.  They will be celebrating with opening day cider and fall treats for pets and their humans.

Co-owner Lee Hartshorn gave me a sneak peek of the work in progress on Wednesday night and I can guarantee that the new place will look just as great as the H Street location, but this is going to be a busy night for them.  Hartshorn said friends and family would be pitching in to help get things in order for the 9am opening, which sounds to me like one of those fun kid fantasies of being locked in a department store at night.  I took a few photos, but you home improvement types can check out the renovation chronicled in photos on their Facebook page.

Having visited the store when it was Pawticulars, the first thing I was struck by was how much bigger the space seemed.  While there hasn’t been any floor space added, fixed shelving has been removed so the new layout will feel larger.  Space around the front window will be open (this may be where you’ll see pets on Homeward Trails adoption days) and there’ll be twice as much space dedicated to dog food.  You’ll still be seeing some familiar Pawticulars faces, as much of the staff has elected to stay on.  They are still looking for experienced dog walkers though, so if you have some dog whispering skills let them know.
