Good morning! I’m getting the vibe that a lot of us are busy. Are you in the throes of party season? Work parties, friends’ and colleagues’… the invitations really pile up and we are lucky to have such a problem.
This weekend I was reminded of the jillions of “Sensible Eating During the Holidays” articles that appear each December. They offer sage wisdom on how to survive this festive social season without blowing your diet. Does anyone really need to read such tips as “Eat before you leave the house so you aren’t tempted!” or “Drink lots of water!!” anymore? Seems so joyless. My totally unsolicited advice is “Eat it if it’s worth it.” Feel free to use my unscientific reasoning below to determine whether or not certain Yuletide treasts pass muster.
- Did someone bust their ass making trifle from scratch?
- You have pretty solid intel they know what they are doing in the kitchen.
- Is it something you have always wanted to try?
You have my permission to indulge. You’ll want to particpate in that January tradition of sensible and nourishing soups all the more if you have something to repent for….
Speaking of repentance, did any THIHers do anything they need to repent for this weekend??
Claudia: On Saturday I celebrated two friend’s birthdays at Policy followed by dancing and drinks on H Street. Sunday I got a Christmas tree and decorated the house for the holidays.
Nichole: Friday night ended a week full of Christmas parties (it occurred to me this weekend that I haven’t eaten with a fork since Thursday – December has so far been a month of nothing but liquor and party finger foods) with the opening of Black Nativity at the H Street Playhouse, followed by a trip to NW to visit with out-of-town (and in-town) friends. Saturday was tree-trimming and general holiday cheer with the Allens et al, followed by a quick stop at the Fridge for the Albus Cavus gala and fundraiser, and then a few hours of imbibing with the Hill is Home crew at Wisdom. Sunday was Chinese food and many naps on the couch, and then cleaning and furniture rearranging to prepare for the imminent arrival of the Christmas tree this week.
Maria: Saturday– Lazy day indoors, culminating in delicious rosemary gin-and-tonics at Wisdom. Sunday– Trekked out to see the Redskins play for a little bit but the weather did not cooperate. Played with LEGOs instead
Jon: Jon had a wonderful time at his office holiday party on Friday night, then spent the rest of the weekend Christmas-ing his house, spending way too much time at Target and dealing with a tantruming three-year old. We did take a break from decorating and meltdowns to see the Living Nativity at Lincoln Park on Saturday though. We also had some delicious pies from Dangerously Delicious and stopped by the Holiday Market at the Atlas.
Jen: Started the weekend off with a Bikram class Friday night to get that deep chill and the week’s worries out of my bones. Saturday was errand filled and the evening was spent at a cafe concert at the Atlas, followed by a holiday party on the Hill and ended the night at Wisdom with some bloggers I know. Sunday we held the newly 8 year old’s party which had a football theme. The rain held off so they could play their game at Sherwood Rec center and then all enjoyed some decent gluten free cake. I think their game went better than the Redskins from what I gather…
