To Do List for the Weekend of 9/13

Hey weekend, nice to see you again.

Tonight is a Pay-What-You-Can preview of Taffety Punk Theatre Company’s The Devil in His Own Words at CHAW. Written and performed by Marcus Kyd, the show was their very first production ever and the company is remounting to celebrate its 10th anniversary. If you can’t make it tonight it will run through October 4th. Ticket, info and a video trailer are all here.

Friday night at the Hill Center is another installment of the Hollywood on the Potomac film series. This week is the 80s classic DC Cab featuring Mr. T in his pre-A team glory. The screening is free and begins at 7 p.m. Registration and more information can be found here.

Saturday both of our local libraries are hosting book sales! Friends of the Northeast Library (FONEL) runs  from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the basement of the library.  Look for a nice mix of fiction and non-fiction books, CDs, and DVDs for sale. As always, all of the money raised goes back to the library in the form of support for staff, supplies, equipment, refreshments, etc. Added incentive: they will be giving out free popcorn.

The Friends of the Southeast Library (FOSEL) sale begins at 10:00 am and ends at 3  p.m. Entrance to the sale is through the library (and down the stairs) or through the basement door on the D Street side. Expect new and mostly used books of all types, including children’s books, fiction, best sellers, non-fiction, etc.  Most hardbacks and paperbacks are only $1 each.  Coffee table book are $2 and up.  Special items at higher prices.  All proceeds benefit local libraries, including the Southeast Library and the DC Library.  As of this writing we are unclear as to whether or not there will be popcorn.

Sunday at 4 p.m. on the lawn of the Hill Center there will be a concert by Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen. The concert is free and part of a series on American Roots Music.

If you prefer classical, Congressional Cemetery opens the Notes from the Crypt concert series with a brief chamber concert in the chapel at 4 p.m. which will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.
