But, you don’t have to book a flight to South America to experience the passion of world class fútbol. In fact, the soccer rivalries are as close as H Street.
Bars and restaurants along the Northeast corridor are taking sides and even ponying up kegs as bets. While almost every bar on H Street is a safe haven for U.S. soccer fans, some bars have chosen other national teams too. Visit any of them during their home team’s soccer match, and you’ll take advantage of drink and food specials:
The Argonaut: Spain and USA
Biergarten Haus: Germany and USA
H Street Country Club: Mexico, Argentina and USA
The Pug: USA
The Queen Vic: England and USA
Star and Shamrock: USA
Vendetta: Italy and USA
Each special starts on game day at noon. Some bars will be taking it one step further, putting up bets on designated games. For instance, on June 14th Queen Vic and Vendetta have a keg of beer riding on the Italy vs. England game.
If Italy wins, the Queen Vic must put a keg of Peroni on tap. If England wins, Vendetta puts a keg of Newcastle behind the bar.
Specific food and drink specials will be promoted by each bar in the lead-up to the games. But, it will be hard to beat the deal being offered at the Pug. Hot dogs will run you $1 for every USA game.
It might be the food special you need to chant: U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
