While the weekend promises more lovely weather, why not plan to attend a neighborhood event? There’s so much to do this time of year, so take advantage of it before everything slows down in July and August.

I’ve got my eye on the show currently on display at a local gallery. Ben Tolman’s show at The Fridge closes with a special reception with the artist on Friday at 7 p.m. The show features 40 new artworks from the DC-based artist. The works are imbued with nostalgia for video games, movies and television, as well as real-world events such as Pussy Riot performances.

If you’re in the mood for a movie, there a viewing of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window at the Hill Center on Friday at 7 p.m. The film is free but you should reserve online or call 202-549-4172. A different film is featured each Friday.

Ft. Collins to DC: Beer nerds head to Yards park on Saturday for  New Belgium Brewing’s Tour de Fat complete with costumes, bikes, music, performers, contests and beer.

On Sunday, the award-winning group Town Mountain will play bluesy and swinging bluegrass at The Hill Center from 4-6 p.m. The event is free and sponsored by the Quicksilver Productions.

Corner Store Arts at 900 South Carolina Avenue, SE is the venue for a comedic 80 minute one woman show about the political intricacies of female friendship on Sunday at 6 p.m. The show is written and acted by Alice Johnson Boher and directed by Rod Menzies.  Tickets can be bought online.
