In what may not come as a surprise to many people, Charles Allen announced this morning that as of October 4th, he will be stepping down as Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells’ Chief of Staff.  Speculation is extremely high that Allen is making the move so that he can run for the Ward 6 seat that will be vacated by Wells as he runs for mayor (a fun little law called the Hatch Act would have prevented Allen from remaining in his job and running for Council at the same time).

While nothing is official in terms of his future plans, Allen noted that he’s leaving to “explore new opportunities to serve Ward 6 and the District.”  With the Democratic primary just around the corner in 2014, it’s looking like the Ward 6 campaign is about to gear up in earnest.
