It’s time for the  DC Diaper Bank’s Annual Capitol Hill Diaper Drive again, and local merchants are providing enticing incentives for you to stop by with a pack of Huggies Diapers cost more than $100 each month. You drop off diapers by donating diapers, from September 7 to 21, at Metro Mutts (508 H St NE or 407 8th St SE), the Playseum (545 8th St SE) or Shawafel (1322 H St NE). Each business is offering a reward for donating *a package of diapers*. Shawafel will give 10% off a meal purchase. The Playseum will give 3 Playseum dollars. Metro Mutts will give a 15% discount (excluding food, Frontline, and already-discounted diapers) on a purchase. You can also drop your diapers off at Eastern Market on September 7, 8, 14, and 15, and at the MoTH Festival on Sunday, September 15.

Each box donated makes a tremendous difference to families living on a tight budget. Over 433,000 diapers have been donated to the DC Diaper Bank to help an average of 1,000 families in need in our region per month. Whew, that is a lot of smelly diapers.

Also, the folks behind the drive are holding email-based silent auction to raise cash to supplement the diaper donation. David Betts of Metropolitan Photography is donating our  prize of a One-Hour Portrait Photography Session — family, kids, cats, dogs — your choice! The prize (a $350 value) includes ready-to-frame prints including 1-8×10, 2-5×7, and 3-4×6. To make a bid, email lbindc@hotmail.com or stop by our booth at Eastern Market on Sept. 14 and 15 to make a bid.  The winner inner makes a tax-deductible donation in the amount of the winning bid to the DC Diaper Bank and gets the photo session that David is donating. Wow, that’s $350 write-off. Cha-ching! During the Diaper Drive, David will offer 10% off  print collections to families who schedule a session between September 7 and September 21.  He’ll also donate 10% of the net profit from print collection sales to the DC Diaper Bank
The Diaper Drive is also looking for volunteers to get the diapers out to needy families. Check out the DC Diaper Bank’s new warehouse in Silver Spring and tallying and bundle diapers for distribution to the Diaper Bank’s social service partner organizations.  The hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and we welcome people to come with their families for any length of time.
