On May 20th, The Hill is Home will reach an important milestone in blogosphere years, our fourth birthday. In the coming weeks, we will look back at some stories from our past. It’s a feature that we are calling “This Week in THIH” and we hope it serves as a quick trip down memory lane!

  • On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, the Capital City Diner opened its doors on Blandensburg Road. The Hill is Home reported on the opening and interviewed owners Matt Ashburn and Patrick Carl. Unfortunately, for greasy spoon lovers everywhere, the diner closed after only two years of service. Last year, the property management company behind Union Market bought the diner for $40,000 on eBay. The diner was trucked a few blocks west and now awaits a second life behind the Union Market shops.
  • In 2011, Capitol Hill’s women –and maybe even a man or two– voted for their favorite nail salon in the neighborhood. As it turns out, Eastern Market Nails is by far and away the go to spot for a manicure or pedicure.
  • And, last year, THIH announced the launch of our Foursquare account. In addition to some in-the-know recommendations and tips on neighborhood favorites, Foursquare can be a deal-finder for shops around the area.
