Self Proclaimed Foodie? Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is!

culinary education crawlLiving close to Barracks Row is both a blessing and a curse (although the curse might just be my laziness but I digress). The point is, I love having so many restaurant and bar options (ok and cupcake shops) all within walking distance from my house, but I do wonder if the convenience factor makes it just a little too easy to decide against actually cooking dinner.

But what if you could cook like (or at least learn from) the chefs at your favorite Barracks Row restaurant? You’re going to get the chance next Sunday February 17th during the Barracks Row Culinary Education Crawl. Beginning at 9am, the street will be transformed into a “cooking school campus” with 21 different classes being offered at various restaurants, including Matchbox, Senart’s Oyster and Chop House, Hello Cupcake and Lavagna to name a few. Most of the classes will be held at the restaurants, but some will be held at the Hill Center, located at 921 Pennsylvania Ave SE.

Classes range from $15 to $30 and run between 30 and 90 minutes each. You must be 12 years of age or 21 years old if the class includes alcohol.

The “Pizza 101” class being offered at Matchbox has already sold out, but there are a lot of other fun options. A cupcake decorating class at Hello Cupcake which I was about to sign up for when I realized I agreed to give up sweets for Lent with a friend of mine. But my poor decision could be your gain! There’s also an oyster shucking class at Senart’s and Zest Bistro will be holding a class to help you make the perfect Spaghetti Carbonara, which you are seriously missing out on if you’ve never had.

Don’t delay – the website lets you know how many tickets are still available for each class so act soon!
